We welcome Michael Anthony to the New Mexico Music Hall of Fame class of 2023. Amazing Musician, Amazing Career, Amazing Person, this is a really good way to describe this New Mexico Musician. His story is really one of two parts, his Hollywood California Music Life and his New Mexico Music Life. Let me explain, originally from the greater New York City Area, at age eleven Michael was gifted a chromatic harmonica for Christmas and his father also got one. He recalls that he and his Father would compete on who could learn more songs they heard on the radio. At age fourteen, the family made a move to Southern California in the San Fernando Valley. By now, Michael’s music choices began to mature and he began to listen to guitar players like Bo Diddly, Les Paul and Andre Segovia. Soon after that he asked his parents if he could take guitar lessons, as it turned out one afternoon his father showed up with a guitar, and so the rest is history. Michael Credits his rapid success to his mentors, musicians like Jimmy Wybel, Howard Roberts, Joe Pass and Tommy Tedesco who were super guitar players themselves. Their resumes read like the who’s who of Elite Hollywood Musicians. From the 60’s thru the 80’s Michael worked as a studio musician in Hollywood but always working on his personal recording projects as well. He worked with countless jazz artists at the caliber of Miles Davis during this time. He also worked on TV shows like Dukes of Hazard, Knots Landing, The Brady Bunch, Dean Martin, Barbara Streisand, Lavern & Shirley and many more, He was a member of the Hanna Barbara Group Music Team, also worked with Henry Mancini, Burt Bacharach, Tony Bennett, Andy Williams, and a member of what he calls the second-generation Wrecking Crew with Glen Campbell. I think you get the picture, His Hollywood Life. While working on the Carol Burnett show came the beginning of his soon to be New Mexico Life as he met his wife who was a member of the Dance team, Cathy Fishback, yes of the legendary Fishback Dance Studio in Albuquerque. Around 1980, the move to New Mexico followed. So, he began his private instruction programs and soon became a staff member with the Music Department at University of New Mexico. Well, it didn’t take long for the music community in Albuquerque to realize the magnitude and music knowledge Michael Anthony possessed. Invitations to perform quickly became plentiful. In the 40 plus years Michael has lived in Albuquerque, he has become an exceptional and highly regarded musician. The people that know him all say the same thing, that he’s a down to earth person and very positive. I guess Hollywood’s loss is New Mexico’s gain. 2014 New Mexico Music Industry AwardsLifetime Achievement Award 2014 New Mexico Music Industry AwardsBest Instrumental Performance for "It's Alright With Me" off the "First Take Trio" CD...
